Mesquite Senior Games To Hold First Ever Golf Tournament

By AMY DAVIS

The Progress

Registration has begun for the Mesquite Senior Games two-day golf tourament to be held on Nov. 9-10 in Mesquite.

Mesquite Senior Games (MSG)will be holding its first ever two-day golf event on November 9-10 complete with gala awards presentation dinner and entertainment. The Monday-Tuesday golf tournament will cover four events and split time between the Sports Complex, the Oasis Golf Club and Sun City. The Mesquite Senior Games aims to promote health and fitness for anyone 50 years old or better.

“We’ve never done anything like this before,” said MSG President Amy Bradshaw. “Marketing has been so tricky and figuring out how to make this work while following guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID 19 has been challenging.”

Events will include a Long Drive, Closest to the Pin, an 18-hole tournament and a 9-hole tournament.
“The long drive event will be held at the Mesquite Sports Complex,” Bradshaw said. “The Complex is the home of the World Long Drive Championship. So that is really exciting!”

Out-of-towners will get a special discounted hotel rate at Eureka Hotel and Casino, the Casablanca Hotel and Resort or the Virgin River Hotel and Casino. Bradshaw said.

During a gala event to be held on November 10, a whole lineup of entertainment will be provided.
Live music will be performed by local jazz band, Dry Heat. These musicians have played or currently play with the Southern Nevada Symphony Orchestra.

Comedic entertainment will be presented by TC Morgan. Morgan has recently moved to Mesquite and can often be found dressed as Captain America. He is an actor, comedian, writer, and stunt coordinator.
Jim Minor will be the Master of Ceremony for the night’s event. Medals will be awarded to the winners of each golfing event.

“We have never done anything resembling a gala event,” said Bradshaw. “We have never had a comedian perform. We have never had live music. We are making this up as we go. It is a totally new concept for us and I think it is going to be a lot of fun.”

Bradshaw said her favorite thing about the Mesquite Senior Games is the remarkable people who participate.

“There is one lady who is coming to the tournament who is 80 years old,” she said. “She just finished up two shoulder surgeries. She wants to come golf just so she knows she still can.”

Bradshaw says that “everyone is used to being a little extra patient” with restrictions, social distancing, extra precautions, and last-minute changes due to COVID 19.

“People are willing to go with the flow,” Bradshaw said. “Our Sun City venue may have to change because of their self-imposed restrictions.”

Bradshaw explained that Sun City is currently not allowing guests because of COVID 19. “That is not because of what the governor says, but because that is the choice they have made for themselves,”

Bradshaw added. “We are hoping that by the time November rolls around we will be able to proceed with the putting course as scheduled.”

Registration is open now through December 1. Registration is $150 for the full two-day bundle. Additional dinner tickets are available for $30 each. Find more information at Mesquiteseniorgames.org
