When the 2012-2013 high school sports season starts there will most likely be changes that will take place to the southern 3A and 4A classifications which will affect the entire state.
The new “Floatels” at Echo Bay were booked solid for Memorial Day last weekend and the concessionaire hopes it’s just the beginning of a great summer holiday season for the new venture.
Two Pirate golfers competed in the state championship last week. The tournament was held at Hidden Valley Country club in Reno, Nevada.
Cody Kelly finished the tournament with a 157 total for the two day total. He finished in 7th place.
Marcus Delgadillo shot a 171 over the two day period and finished in 17th place.
The Moapa Valley High School Track and Field team traveled to Del Sol High School over the weekend to compete in the State Championships.
Though the fall football season still seems far away, it is just around the corner for the organizers of the local Youth Football USA league. Early signups are coming up on June 1 and the league is under new leadership. Taking over as league president this year is Dennis Whitmore of Logandale with vice presidents John Hymas and Ben Cornwall.
Local swimmers from the Moapa Valley High School swim team competed in the Regional swim competition held in Las Vegas on Thursday, May 12. Team members Jacob Allum and Porter Lamping were able to go to this meet by posting qualifying times at swim meets earlier in the year.
The Nevada Interscholastic Athletic Association (NIAA) has some ideas and scenarios in the case they are required to cut school athletic budgets statewide. Right now the procedure is left in the hands of the 19 different school districts. Some districts may cut as much as 25 percent of athletic budgets.
The Moapa Valley High School track and field teams traveled to Boulder City over the weekend where they competed in the regional championships.
The boy’s team took second place behind Boulder City by a score of 75-70. The girls team finished a distant third with Boulder City winning the girls title.
Moapa Valley High School hosted the regional baseball and softball championships on Friday. The showdown saw the Eagles of Boulder City take home both titles and win berths in the state championships which will be played in Mesquite this week.
