MV Judge Swears In New Attorney, His Son

Moapa Valley Progress

Kyle Scott Waite (left) takes the attorney’s oath administered by his father Judge Lanny Waite at the Moapa Valley Justice Court.

Moapa Valley Justice Court Judge Lanny Waite had a rare opportunity last week. In the Overton courtroom, Waite administered the attorney’s oath to a new attorney; and it happened to be his own son.

In a gathering of friends and family, Kyle Scott Waite took his attorney’s oath in front of Waite on Thursday evening, May 23.

Kyle grew up in the Moapa Valley and is a 2002 Moapa Valley High School graduate. At MVHS he excelled in sports, taking state in wrestling, playing on the winning state football team and winning three state track titles. He sang in the choir, played in the band and was the lead in three of Ron Dalley’s drama productions. He also served as Student Body President and graduated as Salutatorian in his class.

Kyle attended Dixie College as a student ambassador and was chosen to serve as president of that organization. He received an Associate’s degree there.

He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Brigham Young University.

He then attended Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, California. While in law school he studied for one semester abroad in China.

He graduated in December 2012 in the top third of his class.

He took the bar exam in February and had to wait 2 ½ months to hear the wonderful results, “you passed”.

“I appreciate my family’s support and thank everyone in the valley for making it such a great place to grow up,” Kyle said. “It truly takes a village to raise a child. I hope through my profession I can serve the valley and continue to make it a great place to live. I was blessed to have two great examples of honest hard working attorneys; my father and my uncle Scott; and I look forward to following in their footsteps.”

Kyle is the son of Lanny and Maxine Waite of Logandale.

He intends to live and practice law in southern Nevada.
