Festival of Trees To Be Held Friday and Saturday

The annual Festival of Trees will be held this weekend at the Old Logandale School.

It’s that wonderful time of year again, Festival of Trees at the Old Logandale School. This festive event will be held on Friday, November 30 from 3-7 pm and on Saturday, December 1 from 9 am -5 pm. Festival of Trees is a free event.

The festival is an annual fundraiser for the Old Logandale School Historical and Cultural Society (OLSHACS). But the event is also something that OLSHACS Manager Robin Maughan gets excited about every year.

“This event is really something I look forward to,” Maughan said. “It’s fun and exciting. I enjoy seeing the building all transformed for Christmas. I am happy to visit with people I haven’t seen in a while and it’s so fun to watch all the performers.”

Trees are donated and decorated by local schools, businesses, groups and individuals. These trees are displayed beautifully in the school’s great hall throughout the festival. There is a silent auction where one can bid on the donated trees and other donated Christmas decor. The auction ends on Saturday at 5 pm.

At that time the winners are contacted and they can come, pick up and pay for their item on Saturday night.

There will be several vendors there selling holiday gifts. This year Tupperware, Lularoe, Dot Dot Smile, Pampered Chef, and Scentsy will be on hand. Along with these, there will be local vendors selling jewelry, fudge, suckers, wreaths, rugs, aprons and several crafts.

Monica Dominguez Photography will there for mini photo sessions. Each session will be $50. To schedule an appointment contact OLSCHACS at 702-398-7272.

Bringing back an old favorite this year, the Nativity display will return. Guests will be able to see several different versions and designs of the Nativity scene owned by area residents.

One new and exciting event added to the Festival this year is the gingerbread house contest. Members of the public are encouraged to enter their self-designed gingerbreak house. Each entry will be judged on decorative value only, not on flavor. The houses can be constructed from either graham crackers or gingerbread. All entries must be turned in by 5 PM on Thursday, November 29. Prizes will be awarded for a variety of age categories. Any age may enter.

Everyone looks forward to the musical and dance performances that take place during the festival. This year the community will be treated to Shay Dalley’s dance and cheer, Parks and Rec’s tumbling teams, In Harmony, Grant Bowler Elementary school choir, Ashely Bowler’s cheerleaders, Kountry Kickers, Cloggers a piano performance by Rose Whitmore.

Don’t forget the Big Guy. Of course, Santa will be visiting the festival on Friday from 5:30-6:30 PM and again on Saturday from 10:30-11:30 AM. Don’t miss the chance to visit with our favorite North Pole resident.

OLSHACS will also be hosting a Parade of Homes on Friday, December 7 from 6-8 PM. Tickets for this event will be $10 and can be purchased at the Festival of Trees or at the Old Logandale School. Each home will be decorated to be enjoyed by those on the tour.
