Mesquite’s newest eating establishment celebrated its grand opening on Thursday, Aug. 15. The seemingly unconventional cafe is located inside the Mesquite Public Library and is appropriately named “Table of Contents.”

Owned by business partners Hugh McPherson and Galan Allen, the cafe caters primarily to library patrons but has a drive-thru and will soon offer delivery around town.

Coming most recently from Las Vegas, McPherson said he loves Mesquite and that he had a vision for what the cafe could be from the very beginning.
“Remember the show ‘Friends’?” he asked. “Where they have a little coffee and sit around and read books. I thought that would really go for a library.”
McPherson noted that Mesquite is a “very trendy, very upscale” community with a lot of nice people.
“So I thought let’s try a little coffee stall like that. That might work,” he said.

In preparation for the grand opening, McPherson and Allen put in a 17 hour day only to discover that their meat slicer wasn’t functioning.
“I had to be at Walmart at 7 this morning to buy $250 worth of sliced meats and cheeses,” McPherson said, adding that Walmart was very supportive of their venture and willing to help out.

“It’s part of the business and I couldn’t be happier to be as tired as I am,” he said.
McPherson said that menu items are baked fresh daily and that employees keep baking throughout the day to meet the needs of cafe patrons.
The establishment offers brownies, blondies and oatmeal cookies.

All of this in addition to the variations of roast beef, turkey and ham sandwiches that are available.
McPherson said that their menu is evolving and changing based on community feedback.
“We’re taking some surveys and we’re very open to suggestion and so far we’ve got nothing but great response,” he said.

Table of Contents is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m.
