Dorothy Shurtliff Fetherston

Dorothy Clarice Fetherston, passed away on December 3, 2020 in St. George, UT. She was born on July 1, 1930 in Overton, NV to Norman Ezra Shurtliff and Adelia Winsor.

Dorothy was raised in Overton where she had many happy memories of working with her siblings and cousins on the family farm. She graduated from Moapa Valley High School and went on to study at BYU. She met Nebraska native John Henry Fetherston her first year and they started dating. John and Dorothy were married in the St. George, Utah temple March 17, 1951. They eventually settled back in Overton where they purchased a dairy farm and raised their 6 children.

Dorothy was an avid reader and took a part time job in the local library where she loved and encouraged young readers. Dorothy and John loved to travel and were able to do that after selling the dairy. They traveled to Europe, Asia, South America and North America and took many cruises. Dorothy served her church and her community throughout her life being involved with Daughters of the Utah pioneers, American legion and the senior center. She especially enjoyed her church service with the Guide Patrol, Relief Society president, 20 years in the ward library, 10 years in the nursery and 25 years as a temple worker.

But more than anything else she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and cousins. Most recently she was able to attend the family gathering at the Valley of Fire which has been her family tradition for 88 years. She loved life and her association with people.She loved trying new things and was up for any new adventure.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Steven of Houston,TX, Michael (Karla) of Overton,NV, Terri Hutchings of Las vegas, NV, Judy (Brian) Seely of Overton, NV, Kathy (Bruce)Chamberlain of Orem, UT, and Lesa (Mike) Ahlstrom of Tropic, UT; thirty grandchildren; sixty-three great-grandchildren; her sister, Nan Crutchfield; sister in law Joan Shurtliff, and a large extended family. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Fetherston, and her siblings: Ted Shurtliff, Donald Shurtliff (twin brother) and Lora Bush.

A viewing for the public will be held on Friday December 11, 2020 6:00-8:00 pm at the Moapa Valley Mortuary in Logandale, Nevada. The funeral service will be limited to family only and will be held Saturday morning, December 12, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the Overton chapel with a family viewing being held at 9:30. The service will be live-streamed with a link found at www.moapavalleymortuary.com/obituaries/dorothy-fetherston

Due to Covid-19, masks will be required at the viewing and funeral. Interment will follow at the Pioneer Hill cemetery.
