The maiden voyage for “Food Truck Saturday” was a popular attraction on Saturday, February 6. The event started at 11:00 am in the parking lot of Lee’s Discount Liquor in Mesquite and it went until the four vendors partnered up at the event had sold out.
“Everything went so well, and we all did good,” said event organizer Bailey Dueck, owner of Fire Up Creations.
By noon, the lines were still long and a continuous flow of people looking to satisfy their lunchtime hunger were filing in.
Other vendors present included Papa Gyro’s, owned by Rik Eide; The Corndog Co. of Mesquite owned by Lindsey Luzier; and the SmokeN’ Grind BBQ.
Roommates Dylan Yturralde, Dixie State Art student, and Zachary Milton, Dixie State Social Science Composite Teaching student, enjoyed their corndog meals from The Corndog Co. of Mesquite. They came down to visit from St. George.
“This is awesome! It’s not often you get good food truck carnival food,” exclaimed Yturralde who hails from Kamas, UT.
Southern Utah University Human Nutrition student Brayden Johnson, who is from Mesquite initially, was enjoying his order from Papa Gyro’s. “This is a great idea,” he said. “Something fun and new!”
Both Fired Up Creations, and SmokeN’ Grind BBQ were massive hits as they sold out by around 2:00 pm. “It has been so good today!” exclaimed Dueck. “We made 120 pizzas and sold out.”
“It has been a perfect day,” exclaimed Eide of Papa Gyros. “We probably would have sold out, but we brought some more food up and provided more. We have enjoyed being able to provide this service to the communities of Mesquite.”
The newest member of the this vendor club was the Corn Dog Co. of Mesquite. Owner Lindsey Luzier explained that they have been going for 3-4 weeks since their grand opening on January 12. Luzier says the business serves Southern Nevada and Wyoming. Luzier resides in Mesquite now but is originally from Idaho. She attended Dixie State University before settling in Mesquite.
“This has been phenomenal,” Luzier exclaimed. It is a much better turnout than we expected.”
There were plenty of crowd favorites that sold fast including the Traditional Gyro, The Epic Corndog Combo, the Brisket, and a variety of pizzas.
“We are so happy to be providing this service to the communities of Mesquite and so happy our joint effort to support each other worked out so well,” exclaimed Dueck.
This band of food vendors plans to hold the Food Truck Saturday event on the first Saturday of each month in the same location.
