Update On Local Racers

By NICK YAMASHITA

The Progress

SNDCA racer Stacy Woods won his first Nationals race last month.

The racing world has been busy lately as the venues and events continue to open to full potential and capacity.

The Southern Nevada Dwarf Car Association (SNDCA) has returned to a full schedule again and racers have flocked to the various competitive events and opportunities.

The local Dirt Pig Racing family has been busy and has really started taking victory laps. Both Stacy “Dirt Pig” Woods and his son Orey “Little Pig” Woods have seen the checkered flag this year. Though both Kelly “Farmer Pig” Woods and Dan “Wild Pig” Varner have not yet gotten into the victory lane, they still have had some amazing outcomes and their racing finishes have improved.

Orey saw his first victory at the Western States Dwarf Car Association 2nd Leg of Nationals at the Mohave Valley Raceway in Bullhead City, Arizona back on Friday, March 25th for the Main Event for the Sportsman’s Class.

Stacy then saw victory at the American Valley Speedway in Quincy, California, for the 3rd Leg of the WSDCA Nationals for the Vets Class. In the Main Event on May 14, he was able to hold off the others and dominate for his 1st Nationals Race win. However, on the next day, he had car problems and had to withdraw from Saturday’s main race.

“It was great to get that win, but that is not the main race,” Stacy Woods said. “I got a trophy and all but…my goal is to get into the main race on Saturday and win the race on that night. It’s the one that really counts.”

The next race for the SNDCA is the 4th Leg of the ESDCA Nationals this week June 11-12, 2021, at the Petaluma Speedway in Petaluma, California. That will be followed by an SNDCA points race at Pahrump, Nevada on July 3. There are 7 WSDCA Nationals Races throughout the season.

Motorcycle racing scene
The motorcycle racing world also has been busy as the racers are getting back to a full schedule. The Motorcycle Racing Association of Nevada (MRAN) held its last race, Jake’s Dirty 30, on June 5 in Ely, Nevada.

Janten Reber of Bunkerville took 7th place in Overall Big Bikes with 1st place in 2-Stroke with a time of 2:26:07.

Moapa Valley’s Gabe Leavitt took 10th in Overall Big Bikes as well as 1st in Lites with a time of 2:37:14.

Jade Marshall of Moapa took 5th in the Open Category but 3rd for the Open Amateur class.

Wild Bunch racer Billy Pulsipher of Moapa ended up 3rd in 2-Stroke with a time of 2:54:16.

There were many other reputable finishes by residents of the Virgin and Moapa Valley communities.

Kurt Tobler of Bunkerville took 3rd in Over 30 division. Denny Falls of Logandale took 1st in Over 40 division. Brett Griffiths of Mesquite took 2nd in Over 40 division. Paul Leavitt of Moapa Valley took 3rd in Over 50 division. Kelli Jenkins of Moapa took 2nd in Women division. Krae Griffiths of Mesquite took 3rd in Overall Mini and 85cc.

The next MRAN race will be hosted by the Camp Valley Cowboys in Camp Valley, Nevada on June 19, 2021.

As for the World Off Road Championship Series (WORCS), Austin Monk was in first place with a lap to go on April 18. But he ended up in a wreck and lost the lead. He finished 12th. He still is in the top 3 for the 450cc category. His next race is this Friday for Round 5 in Cache Valley, Idaho.
