Fringe Salon Increases Its Space, Staff

By BOBBIE GREEN

The Progress

Fringe Hair Salon in Mesquite will celebrate its first full year in business on August 20. And since opening last year, it has already surpassed its expectation. So much so, Fringe owners Karen Lambert and Danielle Serna are already planning to begin an expansion of the salon. And to fill that space, they have hired four new staff members.

Lambert and Serna are excited about the expansion. “We did not think it would come so quickly!” said Lambert “We have the people of Mesquite to thank for their patronage in that fact that we have outgrown our space. We are so thankful for that.”

The salon consists of 1500 square feet now and will be adding 1000 square feet more in the expansion. The addition will allow for the salon to have one new esthetician room, four new style stations and four new nail stations. The remodeling will be done by a retired contractor who is a friend of theirs.

Shayla Ortiz is the new Master Esthetician at Fringe. She used to work in the medical field but decided to take a nine-month, 1200-hour Master Esthetician course and make a career change.

Ortiz says she enjoys this kind of work much better than her previous career. “I am so excited about the remodel,” she said. “I will be able to do spray tan’s and Dermaplaning. It is a fun atmosphere here. Clients just drop by to chat, even when it is not their day.”

Tori Goodsell moved over to Fringe from The View. She styles hair and manicures nails. She specializes in color and style cuts. She also does pedicures, manicures and gel polish.

“I played hairdresser from the day I was born,” Goodsell said. “I use to pretend doing an eyebrow wax on my mother with stir sticks. This is what I always wanted to do. This salon has such a happy environment to work in.”

Goodsell is also heavily involved with her family. When she is not at work, she is often attending her 13-year-old brother’s baseball games.

Manicurist Shawntay Martinez also does pedicures and acrylic nails. She came to the Fringe salon because she knew Danielle.

“I love working here because it is such a happy place,” Martinez said. “I see my old customers from the Casablanca where I use to work. I like making my own schedule, so I have time to spend with my 8-year-old son.”

Marci DeHaan will begin working at Fringe Salon on Aug 3. She has 20 years of experience as a stylist. Marci said that she likes to cut men’s hair and ladies short style hair.

“I hung around my stepmother’s salon since I was a kid,” DeHaan said. “So it was just natural that I took up the profession.”

DeHaan went on to say she is looking forward to living and working in Mesquite. She is coming from Salt Lake City and will appreciate the warmer winter and less traffic.
“This expansion would not be possible without the girls that work here,” co-owner Danielle Serna said.

“They all work hard and join together; it is the whole staff that makes the shop successful and fun. “
