Though live performances were paused briefly over the past year and a half, the Moapa Valley Community Theatre is ready to get back to work with a new live production: The Curious Savage, by John Patrick.
The Curious Savage is a comedy about Mrs. Ethel Savage and her struggle to do what she wants with the ten million dollar inheritance left to her by her late husband.
Viewing Ethel’s charity efforts as frivolous, her grown-up stepchildren have her committed to a sanatorium known as The Cloisters, attempting to “bring her to her senses” and all the while taking the money for themselves.
Along the way, Mrs. Savage meets various social misfits struggling to adjust to the realities of life. But when her self-centered stepchildren realize Mrs. Savage has hidden the inheritance money from them, they return to the sanatorium and attempt to brow-beat her into telling where she hid it. Throughout it all, Mrs. Savage retains her wit and integrity, while leading them on a merry chase.
Through the comedy, characters, and excitement audiences will leave feeling that the neglected virtues of kindness and affection are not entirely lost in the world.
Auditions for The Curious Savage will be held this Friday and Saturday, September 24-25 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Mack Lyon Middle School Theatre.
Anyone interested in participating, whether as an actor or as part of the technical crew, should come to auditions.
No prior experience is needed – only the desire to be part of Moapa Valley Community Theatre and a willingness to share your talents (even hidden ones) with our community.
