Mesquite Senior Games Begins Fall Season

The Mesquite Senior Games started its fall season last weekend with the first round of its three-part softball tournament. The tournament brought teams from all over the western U.S. and even a team from Canada.

The first ever full Fall Season for Mesquite Senior Games kicked off last weekend. The beginnings of the MSG softball tournament began with the 65+ age division on Oct 1.

In addition to softball, MSG has a full variety of events scheduled this year for the first time since COVID hit the country.

“We are very excited about our first ever Mesquite Senior Games Fall Season!” said MSG Director Amy Bradshaw. “With COVID 19 still a concern we are taking every precaution to ensure the safety of our competitors, volunteers, and staff.”

There is an exciting lineup of activities to come this fall and there is still time to register for many of these games. Men’s Softball will continue this weekend with the 70+ age division. Then on October 11-12 the 50+ tournament will be held.

New this year, a Bocce Ball tournament was held this week.

A Shotgun/Target pistols event will be held Oct. 8-9 at Smokin Gun Club in Littlefield, AZ.

A Golf Celebration; including putting, long Drive KP, 9-Hole; will be held at the Oasis Golf Club on Oct.18-19 with sign-ups open until Oct 11.

A Bridge tournament will be held on Oct 19 in Sun City Mesquite, with sign-ups open until Oct.15.

A fun Fitness Hike will be held on Oct 23, beginning near the Conestoga Golf Course and continuing four miles through a scenic desert wash/canyon. This event is free to participants who may check in at 8 am on the morning of the event.

A Pickleball tournament will be held on Oct 21-24 with sign-ups open until Oct.14.

A Poker tournament will be held on Oct.28 with sign-ups taking place on the day of event.

A Bike Time Trial event is scheduled for Oct 29 with 3-mile and 5.8 mile trials. Deadline for registration is Oct. 22.

A Mesquite Heritage Tour will take place on Oct. 30 where participants will learn about historic sites along the way. Sign-ups for this activity will be open until Oct 27.

“This tour includes a light lunch and a look inside two of Mesquite’s historic homes,” said Virgin Valley Heritage Museum Coordinator Elspeth Kuta. “Registration is limited in number of participants. Sign-ups are over half full already.”

A Basketball Skills tournament will take place at the Mesquite Rec Center on Oct. 30. Included are contests in free throws, hot shots, 3-pointers and more. Sign-up for this activity are on the day of event.

A Horseshoes contest will be help on Nov 1-2 at Hafen Park. Sign-ups are open until Oct. 25. Unlike last year, this will be a seniors only event, with participants required to be age 50 and up.

A Cornhole tournament will be held on November 5 at the Mesquite Rec Center. Sign-ups are open until Oct. 27.

A Table Tennis event is offered on Nov. 6. Sign-ups are open up until Nov. 1.

The final fall event will be a Bowling tournament on December 4 at the Virgin River Lanes. Registration for this event is not yet open.

“We have 19 events scheduled between October 2 and November 4,” said Bradshaw. “There are plenty of ways for people 50 and better to have a fun day. Come and join us.”
