A Bocce Ball returned to the Mesquite Senior Games (MSG) last week, this time in the Games’ new Fall lineup. A Bocce tournament was held on Oct. 4-5 at the Sun City Recreation Center.

Participants were excited to be back in the Senior Games tournament again after the long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was a beautiful day, and the lanes were nicely groomed for play.
“We are so happy to see everyone coming back out to play in the Senior Games,” said John Maystadt, President of the Sun City Bocce Association.

Competitor Rocky Dipple was excited to be back playing in the Senior Games. “I won a silver medal last time we played,” he said. “So it is good to be back at it.”

MSG Director Amy Bradshaw expressed appreciation for the sponsors in the games. “We are blessed to have the support from our title sponsor, Mesquite Gaming and our healthcare sponsor, Alignment Healthcare,” Bradshaw said.. “In addition, our venue sponsors include the City of Mesquite and Sun City Mesquite. Because of that, we are able to offer top notch facilities and quality competitions to our competitors.”

The two-person tournament took place on Monday. First place winners were The Avengers team including Ron Burgers and John Carr. In second place was the Sun City Chiefs with Ken Hoover and John Maystadt. Third place went to the Dynamic Duo of George and Bev Brack.

The four-person team tournament was played on Tuesday. The first place team in this tournament was the Rolling Stones team of Marc Menashe, Devin Flowers, John Rosen, and Nancy Rosen. in second place was the Master Blasters including Steve Raddatz, Haron Raddatz, George Brack and Bev Brack.

Taking third place was The Dream Team of Ron Burgers, John Carr, Rick Hawbaker and Bob Oxley.

With COVID 19 still being a concern, the Mesquite Senior Games are taking every precaution to ensure the safety of the competitors, volunteers, and staff, by strictly following all local state and federal health mandates.
