Gordon Neil Stimpson

Gordon Neil Stimpson

Surrounded by loved ones the last weeks of his life, Gordon Neil Stimpson passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at home in Mesquite, Nevada.

He was born July 13, 1939 in Ogden, Utah to Louis Elwood and Roma Viola Larsen Stimpson. On March 11, 1963, he married his sweetheart, Marjorie Irons in Logan, Utah. This marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple on December 19, 1968.

Gordon spent his early formative years in Tremonton, Utah, where he attended elementary school and graduated from Bear River High School. Following high school, he attended and later graduated from the University of Utah after serving for three years in the U.S. Army in the years just prior to the Vietnam conflict.

Following his graduation from the University of Utah in 1969, Gordon and his family moved to the San Francisco Bay area where he worked for a major public accounting firm for eight years and became a Certified Public Accountant. He then worked for and became the Vice President of Finance for a Fortune 500 company. Following his retirement from corporate life, Gordon became self-employed and he and his family moved to the Sacramento, California area in 1985 where they lived for 15 years and finished raising their family. In 1999, he and Marjorie then moved to Mesquite, Nevada where they resided for the final 22 years of Gordon’s life.

As an active life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gordon loved the Lord and the Church and served in many callings including Bishop of the Mesquite Fifth Ward, High Councilman in the Mesquite, Nevada Stake, High Priest Group Leader, Sunday School President, ward missionary, and ordinance worker in the St. George Temple off and on for 18 years. During 2007 and 2008, as senior missionaries, Gordon and Marjorie served in the Kingdom of Tonga as area auditors.

Gordon loved dancing with Marjorie, was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling, traveling, and most of all, just being with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He blessed his family and his friends with his humor, and with his wisdom and with his counsel. He was a dedicated disciple of Jesus Christ and determined to put his family and the cause of Zion first in his life.

Survivors include Gordon’s beloved wife, Marjorie, to whom he was married for 58 years; four sons:  Jeffrey (Lorie), Gregory (Carrie), Shawn (Cassandra), and Jason (Jenniferr; daughter, Melissa (Joel) McKay; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his three brothers:  Robert E., Ronald J., and Garth; and by one great-grandchild.

Gordon will be greatly missed by his family, by members of his church and by others who have been influenced by his kindness and his wisdom, by his concern and by his love.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021, 11:00 a.m. at the Mesquite LDS Stake Center, 100 N. Arrowhead Lane, Mesquite, Nevada 89027. Visitation will be from  9:30-10:30 a.m., prior to the services at the chapel.
