The ‘Legs 4 Lexi’ Charitable Golf Tournament was held on Saturday, October 23 at the Coyote Willows Golf Course in Mesquite. The weather was perfect with 30 teams competing for the title of champion.

The event had a different set-up this year as in the past. The teams played a full 18 holes of golf rather than the customer 9 holes of years past. Teams of two golfers came from, not only around Mesquite, but also from Las Vegas, California, and Southern Utah to parrticipate.
“This is for a great cause and it is a great price to enter,” said Mindy Winslow, mother of Lexi who also coordinated the event.

Lexi Winslow, 7, is the daughter of Joe and Mindy Winslow of Mesquite. She has advanced stage Cerebral Palsy and must complete daily treatments and therapy for her condition. It is a long process and requires a lot of financial resources.

To help the Winslow family, Coyote Willows has helped organize this event for three years now, skipping last year due to COVID-19. The Winslows had previously lived in Coyote Willows community. The residents of the community have become “grandparents” to Lexi and have grown to love her and her family.

The lion’s share of the funds raised will help Lexi be able to travel for medical trips to Texas for intensive therapy which must be done three times a year.

The Golf Tournament event included a putting contest, raffle drawing of prizes and themed baskets, and auctions/silent auctions for donated items. Some of the items included golf clubs, gift cards for multiple local businesses, gift cards for golfing at several local golf courses, and even Raiders tickets. There were so many items donated that not all can be mentioned. There was approximately $6,000 in prizes and items donated.

Smoke ‘N’ Grind provided lunch of amazing BBQ sandwiches. The food vendor also donated the Raiders tickets for the auction.
“We really have to thank everyone for their support and love,” said Joe Winslow. “All of the sponsors, donors, and everyone. This community and area have become family to us and we will always have our hearts full here.”

Winners of the tournament were Andrew and Linda Bird with a 61 score. Second place was Le Tran and H. Akiyama. They scored a 63. Third place was D. Paige and T. Fuller with 64.

Andrew Bird was absent during the awards ceremony due to other commitments. But his wife, Linda, whom he met golfing, accepted the top honors for them both.
“This is a great tournament,” said Linda Bird. “We had a mostly good day with a couple of mistakes, but we feel very honored to win at this special tournament for Lexi.”

The event was able to raise about $6,500 this year. The Winslows express gratitude to all donors, golfers, and especially the Coyote Willows Golf Course and personnel and residents.

Hats off to everyone involoved in this wonderful event and cause. Lexi, her Mom and family of course; Coyote Willows for hosting the event; all the participants, contributors; and The Progress for covering it.

This is a fantastic cause and any person, foundation or business with the resourses to make a difference in the life of a wonderful young girl and her family should consider it. God Bless.
