A Harvest Health Fair was held on Friday, Oct. 29 at the Mesquite Recreation Center. The event was a collaboration between the City of Mesquite, Mesa View Regional Hospital and the Eureka Resort. The community fair was held to celebrate the fall season and to educate the public on healthy living for the entire family.
“Our goal is to provide our community with local services they might not know were available,” Said Mesquite Athletic and Leisure Services Director Nick Montoya.
In the leadup to the health fair, Mesa View Regional Hospital had offered low coast blood tests throughout the month of October. These tests were processed and participants received the results at the health fair.
Members of the Mesquite Show Girls were there to greet the public and pass out bag to each guest to help them hold all the health trinkets, swag, candy and info sheets that they collected from the many vendors.
New Mesquite residents Jon Rock and Allen Nelson said that they enjoyed attending the fair. “We are collecting useful information here,” Rock said. “We will come again.”
Ruth and Bob Hitligus felt the same way. They said that the event offered a host of useful information to local residence.
Montoya thanked the Mesquite Fire and Rescue Association, for grilling hamburgers and hot dogs for the public to enjoy an outdoor lunch.
Salvation Army Mesquite was holding an onsite food drive and Vitalant was holding a blood drive.
Representatives from a variety of healthcare plans, home care and hospice services were also in attendance. Mesquite Senior Games, Police and Fire Departments, Senior Center, Mercy Air: all were available to answer questions from attendees.
The participants strolled at their leisure from vendor table to table asking questions and getting educated on what is available locally. Everyone walked out with a bag full of goodies.
“I would like to thank all our vendors for participating and providing our community useful information at the health fair,” said Montoya. “And a very special thanks to Gerry Chasko, Director of Community Initiative for Eureka Resort and Rob Fuller of Mesa View Hospital for all their help.”
Montoya said that he had heard positive feedback from people that attended the fair that same day. “They were grateful to have the opportunity to spend one on one time with many of you,” said Montoya to the vendors. “We hope to see you all next year!
Mesa View Regional Hospital spokesman Rob Fuller was pleased with the community response to the event. “Mesa View Hospital is here to help our community stay healthy,” he said. “This health fair is just one of the ways we can help.”
