Mesquite Senior Games hosted one of its most popular events on Friday morning, Nov. 5. A successful Cornhole tournament was held at the Mesquite Recreation Center featuring a total of eighteen 2-person teams in the competition.

Spaces had filled up quickly after sign-ups opened. Each team played three rounds in the tournament.

The atmosphere in the Rec Center Gym was fun-and-games with plenty of smiling faces. Event Co-director Shaun Edwards was happy with the event as well as the interest that it attracted.
“We had a healthy turnout of spectators,” Edwards said. “And it was not just family members.”
MSG gave special Bagger-Awards to anyone who bagged 4 holes in one turn. It was obvious that the players had been honing their skills from last year. Six players received the awards including Monte Dibble, Dennis Duszynski, Mike Hall, Juana Karrasch, Chad Pettit, and Fritz Simons.

The Tournament winners were the Sin City Baggers: Juana Karrasch and Fritz Simons that took the first place gold medal. The silver medal went to Confusion, Dennis Duszyunski and Michael Oliveri. And the bronze medal went to Corn Dogs 1, Monty Dibble and Gary Steele.

Greg Cross, member of the Wonkie Donkies team said that the tournament was a good time. “I have participated in other MSG events, but this is first time for Cornhole. I loved it, and it is well organized.”
Sars Gunner, member of team “Ah, Go Shuck Yourself”, said, “This is our first time to participate in the MSG, it is so much fun, and they feed you too.”

Gunner’s statement is true. MSG normally provides pizza or hamburgers at the end of each tournament.

Mesquite Senior Games Director, Amy Bradshaw expressed appreciation to those who helped her organization in putting on the tournament. “MSG volunteers were our score keepers and food servers,” she said. “Volunteers and MSG board members make my job so much easier. We are here to help our seniors have a healthy lifestyle and fun.”
