Western Tri-state Equipment has opened a whole new product line at its Littlefield, Arizona location. On Wednesday, March 23, a group of people gathered for a special ribbon cutting ceremony of a brand new Carquest Auto Parts store which will be located in the large facility.

Jessica Meierhoff of Western Tri-state Equipment said that the decision to add the new auto parts store to the existing lineup was a sudden one.

“We had the space here,” she said. “And we have been doing a lot of repair work and maintenance on farm and construction equipment already in our shop here. So it just made sense that an auto parts store would go well with that. We worked with Carquest and got them here.”

Meierhoff said that they plan to be able to offer some basic auto repair service on site soon. That could include installation of common parts that are purchased in the store including things like brakes and tires.

The center was drawn to the Carquest brand because of its reputation for being a good, solid brand for auto parts, Meierhoff said.

The new store is already pretty well stocked with merchandise. Though, Meierhoff added that supply issues have caused problems on getting a few of the parts that they would normally carry.
“But we have a lot of things that are pretty scarce right now,” she said. “For example, we have a lot of oil in stock currently. That seems to be pretty hard to find right now.”
“Our goal is to be able to help people when they can’t find what they need elsewhere,” Meierhoff added. “We are aiming to have those things in stock and ready to go; or we can get it quick.”

Meierhoff acknowledged that the store is a bit far flung for Mesquite residents to come for auto parts. “We don’t expect a lot of traffic coming in right now,” she said. “But if people can’t find what they need in Mesquite, they can certainly give us a call and we will deliver it to Mesquite.”

The store receives deliveries of inventory every evening. So even if they don’t have something in stock, they can usually get it within 24 hours, Meierhoff said.

It has been nearly a year since the Western Tri-state Equipment opened its doors as the regional dealership location for Mahindra farm tractors, Takiyuchi equipment and more. And while demand for these products has been good, the business has faced challenges common in the current environment.
“It has just been hard to get equipment to sell right now,” Meierhoff said. “And tractors are hard to get. So the equipment dealership has been a slow process.”

Last week’s ribbon cutting event was a small affair. Attendees included the six employees working at Littlefield, as well as a handful of employees from the Mesquite Ace Hardware, a sister business. Also in attendance were families of employees, members of the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce, the Mesquite Showgirls, representatives from the Carquest regional organization and the center’s Mahindra Service Tech representative.

“It was a small gathering, but we wanted to get the word out that we are here now to serve the area,” Meierhoff said. “There are still a lot of people out there that don’t even know that we are here or how to get here.”

Meierhoff added that the store is still waiting on a new Carquest sign to be installed soon so that the store is easier to find.

Meierhoff expressed appreciation to the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce for coordinating the ribbon cutting on site. “We have joined the Chamber and (Chamber President/CEO) Carol Kolson has been great to be there and hold a ribbon cutting for us!” she said.

The store has plans in the works to hold some fun events at Littlefield and celebrate the new Carquest location.
“We are working on scheduling some ‘Cars and Coffee’ events out here for classic car collectors,” Meierhoff said. “It would give them a chance to all cruise out here, show off their cars, get some coffee together and maybe win some prizes and things.”

Also being planned is an official open house for the facility. With the pandemic and supply issues etc, the new center never got a grand opening event, Meierhoff explained. So a long-awaited open house is being planned within the next month or so.

Keep an eye on The Progress for information about these upcoming events.
