In this series, the Progress will spotlight a few of the outstanding seniors from area high schools. The positivity, resiliency and uplifting outlook of the Class of 2022 is contagious. The Progress wishes them the best of luck as they venture into the world.

Chyler Cooper is the daughter of Trisha Cooper and Carlos Carvajal.
Chyler is a member of the student council and is enjoying her time on the track and field team. Just a few of her hobbies include, kayaking, deep sea fishing, traveling and meeting new people. The biggest influence in her life is her mother, “who encourages me to be motivated and hard working.”
After high school Cooper plans to attend the University of Nevada Reno where she will major in kinesiology and join the pre-occupational therapy program.
Her favorite high school memory is making new friends from MVHS and other schools during sports and student council activities.
Her favorite quote is by Alice Morse Earl who said, “Not every day is good, but there is something good in every day.”
Amiah Dominguez is the daughter of Jacob and Monica Dominguez.
Amiah played flag football during freshman and sophomore years. Her favorite subject in school is Art. Dominguez has taken several art classes in high school, including: art, graphic design, ceramics, drawing, and advanced art. She has advanced her skills with several media.
Amiah has also been an active member of National Honor Society for the past two years and has enjoyed doing service in the community.
Amiah said that her biggest influence in life would be her family. “Their support and guidance make sure I can be successful,” she said. “They have always pushed me to keep my grades up and be involved with school activities.”
After high school Amiah plans on attending Dixie State College in St. George, Utah. She will be majoring in arts and entertainment, hoping to pursue a career as an animator. She has been interested in animation since middle school feeling that it is a career she would enjoy.
Her favorite high school memory is the first high school tour, at the end of her 8th grade year.
“We were all split off into these small groups of students with high school students that would tour us around the school,” Amiah said. “I remember that our tour guides would show us which security cameras worked and which didn’t work around an area.”
Amiah’s favorite quote comes from Shel Silverstein. “There are no happy endings. Endings are the saddest part, so give me a happy middle and a very happy start.”
Leieste Renna Macias is the daughter of Jorge and Rashawn Macias.
She enjoys music, drawing, playing video games, reading webcomics, and watching animated movies and TV shows.
Leieste says her mom is her biggest influence. “She is always there for me when I need her and helped me get through some of my toughest times,” she said.
Leieste plans on attending BYU in Provo, Utah, majoring in mechanical engineering.
Her favorite high school memory was from her freshman year in the marching band. The band was performing at the UNLV Super Show.
“Although we were drastically unprepared and our performance could have been better, the part that made it so special was watching the other bands perform,” Leieste said. “All the performances were so fun and special, and their energy was electrifying. That competition was what solidified my love for marching band and music. It will always hold a special place in my heart.”
Calla Haviland is the daughter of Brian and Joy Haviland.
She claims sports as her favorite hobby. She has loved playing flag football, volleyball, and running track while in high school. She also participated in student council and was SBO treasurer. She also enjoys doing things outside such as riding a four-wheeler.
Her biggest influence in life has to be her parents. “They always do what’s best for me and want me to succeed in life,” Haviland said.
After high school Calla will be attending BYU in Provo, Utah studying business management. She is also considering serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when she turns 19 years old.
Her favorite high school memory was winning the state championship in flag football.
“Everything about that night was so fun and it will forever be my favorite memory,” she said.

Lorenzo Cortez Ortega is the son of Refugio Cortez and Maria Virginia Ortega Sillas. His hobbies include taking photos with his phone, flying his DJI drone and playing sports. He said he would like to continue playing football.
His father is credited with being his biggest life influence. “He has taught me a lot of things: how to earn money and how to spend it and at the same time care for others,” Lorenzo said.
Lorenzo’s plans after high school are either attending trade school at Dixie Tech for mechanics or trying to start a construction company on his own.
His favorite high school memory is during 5th period when he was sitting on a rolling chair and fell off. He could feel his friend Donovan trying to pick him up, when he slipped and fell again.
Lorenzo’s favorite quote comes from the movie, Dark Knight. The Joker says, “If you’re good at something, never do it for free.”
Jasmine Gomez is the daughter of Anthony Matos and Janel Miramontes. She enjoys reading, cooking, and spending time with her family.
Jasmine says that her biggest life influence is her mother. “She has inspired me and pushed me to become the very best version of myself,” she said.
Jasmine plans on attending College of Southern Nevada after high school. She would like to study social and behavioral sciences.
Her favorite high school memory was senior ditch day. “I spent the whole day with my class and made many memories that I’ll cherish when I think back to high school,” she said.
Her quote is from Pablo Neruda. “Someday, somewhere, anywhere, unfailingly, you’ll find yourself, and that, and only that, can be the happiest or bitterest hour of your life.”
