Pirates take down Truckee in first round of the State tournament

The Moapa Valley High School Baseball team advanced to the semifinals in the NIAA 3A state tournament on Thursday, May 19 with their win over Truckee 13–10 in Fernley.

Starting pitcher Aidan Johnson got the win for the team. He pitched 4 and two-thirds innings, allowing 8 runs on 6 hits, 3 of the runs being earned. He struck out 1. Logan Schouten came in for the save. He allowed 2 runs on 2 hits and struck out 3.

The Pirates came back from a 2-1 deficit in the first by putting up an impressive 5 runs in the second to take the lead at 6-1.

While the Pirates were able to stay ahead, the game went back and forth scoring with runs being answered on each side to make for an exciting game!

Moapa Valley offense was a collective effort today with 8 players getting hits in the game. Pirates Tyson Staheli, Landon Wresinski, Rylan Evans, Austin Heizelbetz, and Tyson Pettingill all had multiple hits.
T. Staheli led the team in extra base hits with 2 doubles while R. Evans led the team with 4 RBIs.

Tomorrow at 1:00pm the Pirates will face the Virgin Valley Bulldogs in the semi-final game. The Bulldogs slaughtered #2 northern seed Dayton, 17-2.
