Mesquite Cafe Blues Band to be featured in fundraiser concert benefitting “Mesquite Toes”

The Mesquite Toes Dance Team in Mesquite is asking the community for help. And one way that folks can help the team is by attending a special afternoon of music and fun scheduled for Saturday, June 4 from 1-3 pm at the Mesquite Community Theatre at 150 N. Yucca Street.

The Mesquite Toes have been representing the City of Mesquite as “Goodwill Ambassadors of the Magic of Mesquite” since 2003. But due to the pandemic, health restrictions and economic downturn over the past few years, the non-profit “Toes” team has found it increasingly challenging to keep the doors open. The team’s finances have been strained making payment of the rent for their space each month difficult. So they are turning to the community for help.

“Thank goodness that we have a community that cares,” said Toes member Dana Ferre. “They always come through for us.”

A benefit concert has been planned as a fundraiser to benefit the Mesquite Toes team. The performance will feature the music of the popular Mesquite Cafe Blues Band. The multi-talented special guest Mike Rye will start things off. Then the Mesquite Cafe Blues Band, with singer Linda Villanueva, will sing those sultry blues with a passion that will keep the audience glued to their seats.

Villanueva may look familiar to some. She has also been dancing with the Mesquite-Toes team for several years now.

There are several ways that citizens and business owners can help keep the team around.

Firstly, the team needs more dancers. “We want everyone to feel welcome,” said Ferre. “You are not required to have previous dance experience, just come and learn with us.”

Secondly, cash donations can be made to the “Toes.”

Thirdly, those who can’t afford to donate cash could claim the Mesquite Toes Dance Team as their designated charity when shopping with Amazon. It doesn’t cost anything extra. Participants must first sign up under https://smile.amazon.com/. After the initial sign up, every time an order is made with that account from the “Amazon.Smile” website.

“This alone could be a great help for the team,” Ferre said.

A step by step sheet with directions on how to sign up at smile.amazon.com is available by contacting Mesquite Toes team member Marge.

Finally, and certainly the most fun was to help sould be to come out to Saturday afternoon’s concert featuring the Mesquite Cafe Blues band! Tickets can be purchased at the door up to one hour before the performance.

“You won’t regret it,” Ferre said. “I can’t think of a better way to spend a beautiful afternoon.”
