No One Asked Me But… (August 10, 2022)

By DR. LARRY MOSES

No one asked me but… I just filled up my Ford Ranger pickup. Nine gallons cost me $46!
You are probably saying “Poor Baby”. But the issue is not the cost. The issue is what the cost has caused the nation. We see this cost reflected in our grocery bill and in all of the other consumer goods we buy.

The sad part about gas prices is that the national average has indeed dropped by 71 cents a gallon in the last three months. Why is that sad, you may ask? Because I am already hearing people rejoicing that the price has gone down. They seem to forget that the price of gas is still nearly $2 a gallon more than when this administration came into power. That is an increase of over $20 per tank full of gas. We can only hope the American people will remember this in November.

America had just become energy independent and, in fact, was an energy exporter when the present administration took office. Almost immediately with the introduction of “The Green New Deal” and its related agenda, the domestic oil industry was shut down and we once again, America became dependent on OPEC for its oil-based products. This is an organization made up of nations that are the declared enemies of the United States.

I find it interesting an incumbent Senator is running ads against her opponent stating in his State government position during the last four years, he was a stooge for “Big Oil”. Apparently, she is not aware of the fact during that time gas prices were half of what they are since her administration took over Washington, D.C. If he was in bed back then with “Big Oil” it was a romp that benefited the people of Nevada. That cannot be said for the policy of her national party.

What I really fear is that if gas prices are lowered to $4 or less, the people of America will forget that this is still almost $2 per gallon more than when this petrol driven inflation began.

No matter what the present administration cries, they own the increase in gas prices and the near ten percent inflation rate. One can only hope the American people will filter the rhetoric and remember the facts.

The minimum wage by federal dictate is now $7.25/hour, and most jobs are being listed for $15-$16 an hour. Folks, this major increase is not due to government intervention but it is due to the free market demand for workers.

During the pandemic, the government took over the support of many who in the past supported themselves. Many of those people have been reluctant to return to work. While the President touts the fact that many “new” jobs have been created in the last year, he fails to mention most of those jobs were lost when business were arbitrarily shut down and the people were sent home to live off the government.

Restoring jobs is not creating jobs. There is a shortage of teachers, cops, nurses, pilots as well as other workers. This is due largely to the fact that the government supported them when they shut their jobs down and now they would rather continue on the dole than go back to work.

When you go to the polls in November one can only hope that you will remember that in 2021 the annual increase in income for the average American family was 1.2 percent. However, the inflation rate in America was 9.1 percent.

No one asked me but… Has anyone else noticed that there is a movement to make the people of America more and more dependent on the government and less and less on themselves?
I may well be wrong, but it seems to me that the movement among the schools and now the public libraries to feed the children, even of those parents that have the means to support their own, is another move for control.

United States Department of Agriculture reported that in 2020 over ten percent (13.8 million) of American families were food-dependent. Rather than blanket 100 percent of the students in Clark County with food for every meal every day, why don’t we identify those who need the help and make sure they get a quality and quantity that meets their individual needs? This would save 90 percent of the cost in feeding those who need it.

On a larger scale, why don’t we identify those in the general population that need the help instead of opening the food banks to all individuals? It is estimated that 13.8 million families need help. However, most food banks advertise they are open to anyone and everyone. Let me suggest that many who are really in need never see the help they need.

This is not an attack on those who dedicate themselves to distributing food. They are great and good people, but this program could well lead to more and more dependence on the government of the American people.

Where did we go to get vaccinated? To a government-controlled fire department; who by the way did a fantastic job and are to be commended for it. Thanks guys and gals. When one watched the news and the fiasco carried out in Las Vegas, we are very grateful for the job they did. But the issue is not how good you are but who demanded one get the shots and who paid for the vaccination? Our government demanded the citizens get the shots and our tax dollars paid for it. While it was advertised as free, there is no such thing as a free lunch.

The issue is not: Should we take care of the poor and infirmed in America? We surely should.
We as a nation should take care of the poor, the orphan, and the widow. We don’t need universal health care. However, that does not mean that any family should be denied health care, nor should health care destroy a family financially.

But those who can afford their health care should pay for it through their insurance. To rely on the government is to surrender your freedom. The more the government controls your income, your education, your health care, etc., the more it controls you.

Thought of the week… Dependency is death to initiative, to risk taking and opportunity. It is time to stop the spread of government dependency and fight it like the poison it is.

  1. How did the “green new deal” inflate the price of petroleum when it didn’t pass the Senate. If you want to say this administration federal reserve failed to get out ahead of inflationary pressure quickly enough, you’d be right.

The idea that the government could deficit spend a nation out of a recession was put forward by John Maynard Keynes in the early 20th century, and the technique has worked countless times, including during the Great Depression.

The previous administration chose, rightly, to use the additional tool when pandemic all but entirely stopped the wheels of the global economy.

However, the more dollars that are in circulation, the less each one is worth.

Once an economy has been recitated, the less popular second half of Keynesian Economics calls for steps to reduce the amount of cash in circulation to avoid inflation. This is accomplished by raising interest rates.

Our central bank did not do this soon enough, particularly in light of the unexpected invasion of Ukraine.

The price of petroleum is determined by global supply vs global demand. Isolation of an economy is no longer feasible. If you have any doubts, ask Vladimir Putin how it’s working out for his citizenry.

And none of this has to do with legislation that never passed.
