The Progress

The Mesquite Women’s History and Culture Center was buzzing with activity on Saturday, Feb. 4. The local chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), got together to create Valentines to present to local veterans of all branches of U.S. military currently residing in Mesquite care centers.
Eleven ladies from the local chapter were brushing up on their kindergarten skills of cutting and pasting. Under the direction of local crafters Diane Minor, and her mother June Allen, the ladies made beautiful red and white valentine cards, with a ‘Thank You for Your Service’ inscribed inside.
They were chatty ladies having a lot of fun together. But it was also serious business. They sincerely were trying their best to make perfect cards for the recipients. The chapter plans to distribute these special Valentines on Tuesday, February 13.
Sandy Ball and Ruth Dicky related stories from their time visiting the care centers and talking with the local veterans. They told how eager the vets were to tell their stories.
“I found their stories most interesting,” said Ball. “They have had so many remarkable experiences!”
The DAR are always looking for new members. Anyone interested in more information about joining the local chapter should email Registrar Kitty Smith at www.RCSmes@protonmail.com.
