The Progress
The Nevada Judges of Limited Jurisdiction (NJLJ) held their winter seminar at the Casablanca Resort in Mesquite Jan. 28-31.
Seventy judges from Nevada were in attendance, including three Supreme Court judges: Justice Linda Bell, Chief Justice Douglas Herndon and Justice Elisia Cudlish. The NJLJ welcomed 20 new justices to their association at the conference.
The NJLJ holds an educational seminar twice a year to educate and improve the court system. This year’s agenda included sessions on commonly appealed criminal cases, mental health treatment, cyber security, jury management, high interest loans and credit card debt.
Mesquite Justice Ryan Toone, current president of NJLJ, was the host. He arranged for some fun time to showcase the area. Bunkerville Justice Darryll Dodenbier led a tour to Gold Butte.
The NJLJ reception was held at the Mesquite Fine Arts Center, where the justices were treated to a fun art class, making a ceramic ornament of the state of Nevada and decorating it with alcohol ink, stickers and 3D silver nuggets. The class was given by artist Wendy Douglas and Char Lang.
Judge Toone said, “This was a great opportunity to meet with fellow justices and to welcome the new justices. I really enjoyed showing off the fun side of our community.”
