On a crisp, beautiful Friday morning, April 18, the residents of Moapa gathered together to engage in an Easter egg hunt at the Moapa Park, run by the local Clark County Parks and Recreation staff members and BEX Sunglasses.
The entire expanse of the park’s field was littered with a mind-boggling 3,000 colorful plastic eggs – all filled with candy, toys, or an elusive chance to win a grand prize – at this year’s community Easter Egg Hunt. Parents and children gathered along the sidewalk, waiting in excitement for the countdown.

The 3,000 eggs were spread out among four partitioned areas labeled by age, ranging from 0-3 to 8-10 years old. In each age group, 29 particularly special eggs held tickets for something more than candy, which could be redeemed at the central pavilion. Grand prizes ranged from chalk and stuffed animals to bubble blowers. Counting and sorting eggs took longer than the actual hunt, with delighted children of all ages running back and forth to show off their spoils to family and friends.
“This is our 30th year of doing [this],” said Parks and Rec director John Stastny with satisfaction later. “We always make an effort to thank Commissioner Kirkpatrick. She always donates money to our prizes and eggs.”
A welcome addition this year came from BEX sunglasses, who took it upon themselves to provide a section to the egg hunt in order include children ages 11-15, and “give the little bit older kids something to be excited about,” in the words of Amanda Michie, the operations manager of the company. “I know Easter tends to lose some of the magic as kids get older.”
BEX also provided the same sponsorship at the Logandale egg hunt.
“We actually came up with the idea because we had some extra sunglasses cases and wanted to put them to good use,” said BEX’s Scarlet Jasperson, who helped organize the event and hide the 400 sunglasses cases and dozens of branded hats used as a fun twist on colored Easter eggs. Inside each case were prizes ranging from candy, stickers and even beef jerky, with 18 of them holding sunglasses as a secret grand prize.
“BEX loves to stay involved with the community. This is our community, our base of operations,” Michie said. “We hope to keep doing it in future years.”
When asked the ultimate goal of the day, Stastny said, “The goal and objective [is] to get people outdoors and interacting with their community, especially on a beautiful day like today.”
