Participants competed in 14 competitions over three weeks in the 24th year of the Mesquite Senior Games.
The spring season offered an array of events ranging from fun shooting to track and field and the ever-popular pickleball.
The games also offered much more than the ability to showcase one’s athletic skills.
“It’s an opportunity to bond with others in my community,” one participant commented.
The female softball players travel to different states six times a year to compete.
“Many of us are good friends. We meet up a day before the event and practice, along with catching up on what we have been doing,” said one player.
Gary Graybill travels from Colorado to compete. “I get a chance to be with my brother. We are very competitive, and we thoroughly enjoy being a part of the Senior Games.”
“The people here are wonderful,” one contestant said. “Everyone is so friendly.”
The seniors’ athletic skills were on full display. The female softball players scurried across the field, catching balls and stealing bases. There were bowlers in their nineties, basketball players in their eighties and the list goes on. The competitors were physically fit and displayed a sense of vibrancy and joy, making them appear younger.
Many showed appreciation to the volunteers of the Mesquite Senior Games, and already, competitors are looking forward to the fall season.
