The Pirate swimmers took second place to finish out their regular season by breaking personal records, diving into qualification for the regional meet and state playoffs.

“We swam well, and we have had a few qualify for regionals,” head coach Kristal Beckstrand said. “I am proud of their hard work.”

The last swim meet was held in Mesquite against Virgin Valley and Mater Academy East Las Vegas April 24. The Pirates had a good race and ended up taking second place as a team.

Maycee Andrus swam the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 36.23 for a personal record. She had already qualified for regionals in this event. She qualified in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:24.0 for another PR at this swim meet. Savanah Nell swam the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:58.75 for her own PR. This qualified her for regionals as well.

Nicole Patterson swam the 50-yard freestyle for a PR with a time of 34.81. She had already qualified for regional competition previously. Patterson then set another PR in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:22.56. She had already qualified for regionals for this event.

Sadie Schulthies set a PR in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 29.11, which qualified her for regionals. She had already qualified in the 100-yard breaststroke but ran a time of 1:31.45 at the last meet of the season.

Robin Washburn set two new PRs by swimming the 50-yard freestyle in 30.10 and the 200-yard freestyle in 2:34.86. These both qualified her for regionals in both the 50 and 100 freestyles.

The regional preliminary competition is on Tuesday, May 6 at the Pavillion pool in Las Vegas at 101 S. Pavilion Center Dr. The top 16 will compete in the finals on Friday, May 9. The top four in the region will compete in the state championships May 16-17 in Northern Nevada. The state meet will be held at the Moana Springs Community Aquatic and Fitness Center in Reno at 240 West Moana Ln.
