The Casa Blanca Resort & Casino’s summer concert series go off to a great start Friday evening. The weather was warm and the pool was full as the Spazmatics launched into their set.

From their opening song, “Tainted Love”, the 1981 smash hit by Soft Cell, the crowd was on its feet and dancing. From there they went into “Always Something There to Remind Me” originally by Naked Eyes. Other fan favorites included John Mellencamp’s “Hurts So Good” “Everyone Wants to Rule the World” by Tear for Fears and “What I Like about you’ by the Romanics. The Spazmatics definitely covered the big songs of the 1980s.

The Spazmatics are more of an organization than a band. There are more than a dozen incarnations and lineups of different musicians that cover all the major U.S. markets. The brainchild of Perfect World Entertainment, they consider themselves the leader in musical era tributes according to their website. This version of the Spazmatics are regulars at South Point in Las Vegas as well as here in Mesquite.

This was the first of a summer of poolside concerts at the Casa Blanca. Upcoming shows will be Jay Dead on Saturday, June 14, The Blockbusters on Saturday, July 5, Tony Marques Band on Saturday, August 2 and The Carol-Lyn’s Allstars on Saturday, August 30.
