The Virgin Valley High School swim team concluded a successful season with strong performances at both the regional and state championships.

The girls team demonstrated dominance at the regional competition, held May 6 and 9 at the Pavilion Center Pool in Las Vegas, securing first place with an impressive 369 points. Boulder City High School followed with 326 points, and Coral Academy finished third with 317 points.

The boys team also delivered a commendable performance at the regional meet, achieving a fourth-place finish with 178 points. They trailed Adelson Academy (227), Coral Academy (367) and Boulder City High School (500).

At the regional meet, the girls’ 200-yard medley relay team, composed of Sweden Smith, Kyra Jensen, Alya Andrade and Sophia Torres, captured first place. Jensen also claimed first place in the 50-yard freestyle, and Andrade triumphed in the 100-yard butterfly. Smith added to the team’s success with another first-place victory in the 100-yard backstroke. The 200-yard freestyle relay team, featuring Smith, Ember Anderson, Andrade and Jensen, also secured first place. Anderson and Brooke Zarate earned second and fifth-place finishes respectively in the 200-yard freestyle.

The boys team also showcased their abilities, with Quade Griffiths earning third place in the 100-y backstroke. The 200-yard medley relay team of Quade Griffiths, Austin Pearson, Beau Garrett and Kye Griffiths achieved fourth place. Kye Griffiths also placed sixth in the 50-yard freestyle.

Continuing their competitive drive, the Virgin Valley teams faced off at the state meet held May 16 and 17 at Moana Springs Pool in Reno. The girls team achieved second place with 99 points, narrowly edged out by Truckee High School (125.50) and followed by Coral Academy (67). The boys finished ninth with 19 points.

At the state meet, the 200-yard medley relay team of Smith, Jensen, Andrade and Torres again demonstrated their teamwork and skill, securing first place with a time of 1:59.99.

Individually, Jensen and Andrade continued to shine. Jensen secured another first-place finish, dominating the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.42. Andrade displayed her versatility, winning the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.82.

Additional notable performances at the state meet included Smith’s second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke,Anderson’s fifth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, Torres’ sixth-place finishes in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle and Zarate’s sixth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Anderson, Zarate, Blazzard and Torres earned a fourth-place finish.

The boys team was represented by Garrett in the 200-yard freestyle and Kye Griffiths in the 50-yard freestyle. Quade Griffiths achieved fourth place in the 100-yard backstroke.
