There are many companies in Nevada that support veterans, and from time to time the Armed Forces Chamber of Commerce gives a heads up to several of them. One such company is the First Citizens Bank, with branches from Reno to Las Vegas and in-between.
According to the chamber, the bank has “a long standing tradition of supporting veterans and their families.” As a top 20 U.S. financial institution, the company has been helping veterans for many years. Some of its efforts to help veterans include employee involvement, including this past Memorial Day when they volunteered to participate in the “Carry the Load” event that provides help to those in need with the slogan, “Who are you carrying?” A spokesman for the chamber explained the “Carry The Load campaign features events to honor the sacrifices of our nation’s heroes.” It also raises scholarship funds for veterans and works to preserve the sanctity of Memorial Day through community gatherings and storytelling to unite Americans in appreciation for the sacrifices made by a few who carried the load for all.
Homeless veterans continue to be a problem in cities across Nevada, but several firms have stepped up to try and help in various ways. To that end bank employees recently joined with business partners and helped break groups for 62 affordable homes for veterans in MenloPark, California.
The First Citizens Charitable Foundation, Inc. is a corporation established under the Iowa Non-Profit Corporation Act under Chapter 504(A) of the Code of Iowa (1995), and commenced existence on December 27, 1995. The Corporation is organized for charitable, religious, educational, and scientific purposes, including, for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under Section 501(c)(3). Any veterans groups that wish to seek help from the bank should note the board meets to consider requests in June and December. The application deadlines are June 1 and November 15 and there is an online application that must be completed.
According to a statement on the bank website, “In our line of work, people come first. That’s why we’re proud to lend our support to causes that help people in need. As a company, we work with organizations in the areas we serve to help them make our communities stronger. Our employees also donate hundreds of volunteer hours every year to causes close to their hearts. In every region we serve, First Citizens and our employees give our support to cultural events and worthy causes that keep our communities strong.”
