Margarita World, a six-piece tribute band featuring the music of Jimmy Buffet and Alan Jackson, played two packed shows at the Eureka Casino Resort this past weekend. This group of talented musicians from Las Vegas featured brothers Ricky and Bobby Stinson. Much like Jimmy Buffett (1946-2023), they told the audience jokes and stories between songs.
The set started out with “We Are the People Our Parents Warned Us About” from the 1983 album One Particular Harbor followed by an Alan Jackson song, “Toes in the Water.” Next it was Jimmy Buffet’s “Last Tango in Paris” and then Van Morrison’s, “Brown Eyed Girl.”
The format was interesting with the full six-piece ensemble playing hit songs for the first part of the set. Then one of the Stinson brothers came out with a cowboy hat for the Alan Jackson tribute that included “Long Way to Go,” “Pop a Top” and “Chattahoochee” closing out with “Summertime Blues.” He brought his brother out for “5 O’clock Somewhere. The crowd of mostly baby boomers cheered as he sang “what would Jimmy Buffett say!”
When the band broke into “When the Volcano Blows” the audience formed a Congo line and danced all the way around the room.
The next part of the show was an acoustic medley by the two Stinson brothers that ran though some Buffett fan favorites like “A Pirate Looks at Forty,” “Changes in Attitudes,” “Havana Day Dreaming” and “Come Monday.” The full band can back onstage to finish the show with “Down at the Lah De Dah”, a big Jimmy Buffett hit from 2020.
The ballroom at the Eureka was full both nights and the sound was very good, loud but not too loud. Thanks to the Eureka Casino Resort for bringing great talent to Mesquite! Check out their website for the Summer Entertainment Series that runs through August 31.
