Veterans residing at Mesa Valley Estates (MVE) enjoyed a home-cooked BBQ rib lunch Wednesday, July 16, courtesy of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Mesquite Vietnam Veterans.

DAR frequently provides festivities for MVE residents. They brought in a complete home-cooked dinner of BBQ ribs, baked potatoes and a variety of sides and desserts. The Mesquite Vietnam Veterans paid for the meat, and some came to help serve the meal.

Veteran Frank Lea, 94, brought a video to share at the luncheon. It had original pictures he had taken during the war. The guys had a good time seeing the old equipment and places they remembered. Lea narrated the video.

The ladies from DAR and the gents from Vietnam Veterans served the residents. Veteran Chuck Thompson, 86, a resident of MVE, was eagerly waiting for the home-cooked ribs. He attends most of the events and said, “I have been around the world once, and now I am going again.”

Malcolm Horne, 92, a veteran of the British Royal Air Force, had high praise for the luncheon, as did the 12 other resident vets who attended.

DAR Chaplain Ruth Dickie is also the coordinator of the events held at MVE. She and her committee love honoring the veterans. Chapter President Dr. Leigh Roessner was there to help serve. MVE Life & Enrichment Director Ayssa Plant enjoyed the meal and offered to help cook at next year’s luncheon.
