The color blue was prominent at the Mesquite City Council meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 12.

Members of the Mesquite Police and Fire departments attended the presentation and thanked Kenny Huff, from Mesquite, and Jim Frump, from Beaver Dam, Eagles Landing truck stops for their support.

Each department received $5,500, which will be used for needed items for which there is no budget.

Huff reported in the past five years Eagles Landing has donated $55,000 to local first responders. The monies were raised from the annual 1st Responders Golf Tournament fundraiser, sponsored by Eagles Landing. Huff handed over the checks, thanking the first responders for all that they do.

The Mesquite Fire Department has purchased things like Jaws of Life and thermal imaging with this money. Beaver Dam has used the money for training equipment and personal protective equipment, like gloves. Sergeant Wyatt Oliver of the police department said they put the money toward mental health and wellness for the officers.
