The Virgin Valley girls golf team qualified for this week’s 3A state tournament by finishing third at the 3A South regional tournament held last Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 7 and 8, at Aliante Golf Club in North Las Vegas.
The Lady Bulldogs will be represented by four golfers at the state meet: Davie Slack, Bella Jaehn, Kenzee Burton and Lexie Walker.
The foursome combined to shoot a score of 381 at the regional meet, good enough for third place and qualifying Virgin Valley for the state meet, which will be held this Monday and Tuesday at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City.
Boulder City was the runaway winner of the regional meet, shooting a score of 340 to finish 23 strokes ahead of second-place The Meadows School of Las Vegas.
The Lady Eagles also had the individual gold medalist in Emmerson Hinds, who shot a blistering two-day total of one-over par 145 after rounds of 70 and 75.
Slack finished a distant second with rounds of 78 and 88 for a total of 166. Danika Phillips of Coral Academy-Sandy Ridge was third with a score of 83-90, 173.
Jaehn recorded rounds of 95-102 for a total of 197, while Burton shot 97-103 for a score of 200. Walker shot rounds of 111-104 for a 215 total.
Boulder City will send five players to the state meet with The Meadows, and Virgin Valley will send four each. Coral Academy qualified three individual golfers and Pahrump Valley one.
