The Virgin Valley girls golf team finished in second place at the 3A State tournament held last Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 13 and 14, in Boulder City.

The Lady Bulldogs shot a combined two-day score of 379 to finish 11 strokes ahead of third-place The Meadows School at 390. Host Boulder City easily ran away with the team title by shooting a two-day total of 339. Truckee was the highest-placing northern school, finishing fourth at 415.

Boulder City’s Emmerson Hinds carded rounds of 75 and 81 for a total of 156 to easily capture the gold medal in individual play.

Virgin Valley senior Davie Slack placed third in individual play with rounds of 87 and 88 for a 175 total. She finished two strokes behind runner-up Allison Mortimeyer of Truckee (83-90, 173) and one stroke ahead of Boulder City’s Morgan Terrill (86-90, 176). Caitlyn Nielson of Elko (96-83, 179) rounded out the top five.

Slack was runner-up to Hinds at the regional meet two weeks ago at Aliante Golf Club in North Las Vegas.

The Lady Bulldogs, under first-year head coach Amanda Davis, had three other golfers compete in the state meet. Sophomore Bella Jaehn shot rounds of 93-102 for a total of 195 to place 11th overall. Junior Kenzee Burton had rounds of 99-111 for a 210 total, which was good for 19th place, and junior Lexie Walker shot a 100-112 for 212 and 21st place.

Monday’s first round was played at Boulder City Municipal Golf Course, with Tuesday’s final day played at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
