Sixty-eight golfers teed off at the Coyote Willows Golf Course, participating in the fall Senior Games Tournament, which was a two-person, best-ball scramble held Wednesday, Nov. 5.
The efforts of the event director, Shaun Edwards, and Sandy Tudor, who is serving as the new president of the Mesquite Senior Games, along with new board members stepping up to help with events, ensured the tournament was a success.
The Senior Games Golf Tournaments are always a big hit for golfers in Mesquite and also those from other states. One team was from Northern California. Others hailed from Denver, Colorado. “I have been involved with the Senior Games for over three years,” one golfer stated. He also participates in the softball tournaments.

All golfers completed the first round, consisting of all nine holes at the golf course. Those who wanted to play a second round paid $5. The Longest Drive competition was held on Hole 4, and the Closest to the Pin competition was on Hole 6.
Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded to the golfers in their five-year age group (50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69…). Carol Wainman won the gold medal in the 85-plus category, while Mary Hembree took home the gold in the women’s 70-74 age range. Daniel Gephart won the gold in the men’s 85-plus, while Larry Robinson took home the gold in the men’s 80-84 category. There were a multitude of other medals in each category.
The golfers gathered in front of the clubhouse, enjoying the delicious barbecue food truck while waiting to see who won the raffle tickets and 50/50 tickets. Prizes ranged from blankets and tumbler sets to glassware, wind chimes and many more. The organization is already preparing for its 2026 spring season, including its 25th anniversary.
With the games continuing, there is a constant need for volunteers to help run the events.
The Senior Games are an integral part of Mesquite, promoting health and fitness as well as tourism in the community. The participants give much credit to Tudor, who manages most of the scheduling.
