The fall Mesquite Senior Games began with a two-day tournament held Oct. 4-5 at Pioneer Park in Mesquite. Sixty-nine teams with players in their 60s and 70s competed for the gold, silver and bronze medals. Six games were played in the 60s category and three in the 70s.
Teams came from as far as Canada. Barry Ward, from Ottawa, played for the Alberta Grizzlies. “This is my fourth year playing in the Senior Games,” he said. “I love it.”
Al Paez, a substitute player, has been active in the Senior Games for over 15 years, playing with the Mesquite Legends, formerly Mesquite Geezers. One member of the team is 82 and another is 80. “I love meeting new people,” he said.

In the 70s category, the Slug a Bug Team from Florida won the gold medal, while Brantford Nissan from Brampton, Ontario, won the silver. Cascade Thunder from Washington State took home the bronze.
On Sunday, Oct. 5, five games were played. In the 60s category, the two undefeated teams, the Boas and the Wenatchee, played the final game. The Boas earned the gold medal with 17 points, and the Wenatchee team won the silver with 13 points. Huff and Puff, from Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, won the bronze medal. All medals were presented on Sunday.
On Oct. 6 and 7, two teams in the 50+ category competed at the Mesquite Senior Games. The Mulligans of North Dakota and Team Alaska 50 played four games total. The Mulligans won the tournament.
This was the sixth year the Mulligans have been competing. This year, there were many first-timers participating. Sandy Tudor was given much credit for organizing the games and keeping the communication lines open.
Doc Martin won the gold medal for the 74-age group.
Resultz Reality out of Vegas took home the silver medal for the 65-age group. The Huff and Puff team from Alberta, Canada, won the silver, and the Global Old Guys won the bronze.
The last tournament was held on Oct. 13 and 14. Two teams were from Alaska: Team Alaska and R-Tech Alaska. Also competing were the North Star Stone from Florida, the Mulligans and Bowers Blue, both from North Dakota.
Bowers Blue took home the gold medal, while North Star Stone won the silver. R-Tech Alaska took home the bronze.
