The Moapa Valley High School girls basketball team took down the Pahranagat Valley Panthers 31-24 in Alamo on Tuesday, Dec. 30. Three Pirates scored seven points to lead MVHS to victory.
Seniors Katelyn Wadsworth, Taylee Bunch and freshman Lily Cox led the Lady Pirates with seven points each. Freshman Presley Adams grabbed seven rebounds and three steals.
“PV played some solid defense at the JV and varsity level. Coach Steele is doing good work with her girls,” said MVHS head coach Gary Weiss. “We’re getting healthier and excited to jump into league play. We’ve got lots of room for improvement and opportunities for growth.”
The Pirates are averaging just 19 points per game, so offensively there’s a lot of room for growth. The team is shooting just 17 percent from three-point range and 30 percent from inside the arc this season.
“We are getting up a lot of shots – some good looks and some bad – just not making many,” Weiss said. “Things are coming along slowly. Hopefully, we can start putting together some consistent stretches of good play. We’ll need it the rest of the season.”
The Pirates (8-4, 2-1) host Amplus Academy (0-9, 0-3) for a league game at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7 and visit Pahrump Valley at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 9.
