Salt’s celebrates one year

January 6, 2026 by Nick Yamashita Leave a Comment

Local Moapa Valley restaurant Salt’s celebrated its first anniversary at the end of 2025 with cake and a small celebration.

“Very exciting,” owner Priscilla Bedoya Arvizu said in an interview last Saturday.

The celebration took place on December 30, 2025, at the restaurant location at 150 N. Moapa Valley Blvd. in downtown Overton. Arvizu said multiple customers and families celebrated with them for the day. There was plenty of cake available.

“This is a great accomplishment for me, my team and also for the valley,” she stated.

She explained that the valley had wanted a restaurant with a “Ma and Pa” type feel and with homestyle cooking that was missing since Sugar’s Home Plate closed its doors in May 2021 after over 30 years of success. Sugar’s was then bought out by world-famous magician Criss Angel, who turned it into Criss Angel’s Breakfast, Lunch and Pizza (CABLP).

She explained that with help from Judy Metz, the original owner of Sugar’s Home Plate, they were able to get educated and help to open Salt’s. The place was a massive hit when it first opened. Arvizu said the grand-opening hype lasted about three months. She said business has slowed but is still doing well, and they are happy with the success they have retained.

Arvizu was born in Guatemala and raised in Las Vegas, graduating from Eldorado High School. She moved to Moapa Valley on April 1, 2020. She opened Kuppa Joe in March of 2021 and then Salt’s. Even with some recent life changes, she says she is here to stay, adding that Moapa Valley is her home.

Arvizu said the biggest challenge for the year has been figuring out the menu and pricing, as the food market was very volatile during the summer.

“It was hard adjusting to and figuring out what everyone wanted and actually providing it,” she said. “With the gas prices changing and food prices, it was hard. It really was. I think we have provided it.”

She gave most thanks to her restaurant and customer family for the success in the first year.

“It is really the people and getting to know everyone,” she added of the reason it has worked so well and why she enjoys running the business. “We really are all a family.”

Besides cake on the anniversary, participants got to sign a shirt, which will be added to the restaurant’s decoration.

The restaurant has obtained televisions and intends to show sports and major sporting events, including the Super Bowl and UFC fights. They plan on having live entertainment in the new outdoor dining area when the weather warms up and the area is finished.

Another goal is obtaining a liquor license. Arvizu said the time frame depends on the application process and background checks. She said she hopes to obtain the license by the Super Bowl, but no guarantee. They started online ordering about four months ago with a delivery service, which has been a success.

“In the end, everything is going great,” she said. “I am really happy about it and how the community has been acceptive of us.”

She again gave thanks to all the regulars, customers, employees and family. Salt’s is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. You can contact them at 702-397-8411 during business hours.
