Over 15 people walked in the new year on Tuesday, Dec, 30, at the labyrinth in Mesquite. Karen Bernardo Curtis, who organized the walk, read from “The Journey Out – Looking Toward What is Possible,” advising the walkers to reflect on the year behind them and to honor it. When the walkers reached the labyrinth center, they chose an intention, a way of being to carry forward. After they finished their walk, they imagined stepping into the year ahead.
The walk represented letting go of the past and embracing the future, providing a peaceful meditative experience for the participants, some of whom experienced the labyrinth for the first time. “I never knew Mesquite had anything like this,” one man said. The others said they would be back to meditate in the future.

Curtis has been instrumental in providing Mesquite with this sanctuary where residents can enjoy reflecting on their lives. She discussed the Mindful Collective, which exists to cultivate peace, mindfulness and community through shared bimonthly practices such as yoga, tai chi and other wellness-focused activities.
