A five-vehicle accident occurred on Jan. 9 as a result of exercise equipment in the road within the Virgin River Gorge.
The Beaver Dam/Littlefield Fire Department responded to the scene of a multiple-vehicle accident at approximately mile marker 17 on the southbound lanes of Interstate 15. After arriving on the scene, they deduced that the incident involved five vehicles that had hit a “slightly used” piece of exercise equipment.
One of the 14 people involved in the incident was transported by ambulance to St. George Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. All others were treated at the scene.

The accident is under investigation, with a search for the owners of the exercise equipment.
The department issued a reminder for all people to ensure their items are properly tied down and for other drivers to be aware of their surroundings and drive defensively at all times. The incident closed the freeway temporarily, but it was reopened quickly.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety Troopers and A-DOT also responded to the scene to assist.
