The Mesquite police issued a warning last week about card skimmers discovered at local gas stations, proof of fraud crimes.
On Jan. 15, the Mesquite Police Department issued a warning on social media that two reports had been received regarding card skimmers found at two different gas station locations. They said at the time of the initial report that there was no information on potential suspects or when the devices were installed.
“The post was to alert our citizens to please take extra precautions when paying at the pump,” said Mesquite Police Department Public Information Officer Jaime Stout. “Be vigilant and check for anything that looks unusual or loose on the card reader.”

Stout said there were no reports of any victims currently, and the scam was caught very early on. He said card skimmers at pumps are a national problem and something that both police and businesses are trying to “cut down on.” Stout urged extra caution when paying at the pump. The two incidents remain an open investigation at the time.
As for other news, the Mesquite Police Department reported 13 arrests for last week, with the most arrests made for bench warrants issued (7). There were two arrests for DUI or open alcohol container within a vehicle and a couple of arrests for petit larceny and trespassing.
Stout also reported that everything went well during the recent car show in town, with minimal crime and incidents.
“No complaints on our end,” he said.
