Moapa Valley High School students celebrated Reverse Week with a new theme this year called “The Cozy Countdown,” ending with Saturday night’s Snooza Palooza Reverse (Girls Ask) Dance.
A large poster displayed on campus outlined each day’s themes and activities. Monday was “Sweats + Sweaters,” encouraging students to dress comfortably. Tuesday was labeled “Juniors Test, Others Rest,” as juniors took the ACT while the rest of the student body did not have school. Wednesday was “Performative Day,” which included bingo activities during the school day.
Thursday’s theme was “Adam Sandler,” inspired by the actor’s casual style. Students participated by wearing oversized and relaxed outfits. Friday featured “Teacher + Student Swap,” along with a scavenger hunt and a mattress race during nutrition break. The mattress race drew a crowd of students who gathered to watch their classmates compete.
The week concluded Saturday with a Snooza Palooza dance, held from 7 to 9 p.m. in the outdoor quad at MVHS. Students from all grade levels attended the Reverse Dance wearing matching pajamas. Music played throughout the night, including Just Dance videos that students could follow along with.
Student Council Advisor Mckell Parkinson said the idea came from the students, who wanted to try something different this year.
“Student Council wanted to do something new and fresh for Reverse this year. After a lot of brainstorming, they came up with Snooza Palooza and we ran with it,” Parkinson said. “The students planned everything from Performative Bingo, to Mattress Racing during nutrition break and even playing Just Dance videos as part of the dance itself. Students from all classes showed up on Saturday wearing matching pajamas and danced the night away in the outdoor quad of MVHS. I’m so proud of my student council members for thinking outside of the box and making the week a smashing hit.”
According to Parkinson, students were responsible for planning the activities and organizing the week. From spirit days to lunch events and the dance itself, student council members worked together to make the event happen.
Reverse Week provided students with a chance to participate in something new while continuing a long-standing school tradition.
