A six-run second inning propelled the Moapa Valley High School baseball team to a 13-2 road win over the Del Sol Dragons on Monday, March 9. The Pirates went on to score multiple runs in each of the next three innings thanks to seven fielding errors by the Dragon defense.
The offense was buoyed by Thatcher Leavitt, who was 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Lincoln Stankosky was also 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored. Landon Briggs had a double and two RBIs, while Lane Brigs was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Jake Hadley was missing bats all game for the Pirates, striking out 10 over five innings, allowing just three hits and two unearned runs.

The Pirates were bested by the Stansbury Stallions 8-2 in Overton on Wednesday, March 11, however. Jayden Staley kept the Pirates in it with 3.2 innings of one-hit ball. He struck out five, walked one and allowed just one unearned run.
At the plate, Quinton Leavitt was 1-for-1 with a double and a run scored. Weston Ruiz had the lone RBI for the Pirates.
Moapa Valley is at Cimarron-Memorial (2-6) on Monday, March 16, for a game at 11 a.m. On Tuesday, March 17, the Pirates play Smoky Hill (2-0) at 8 a.m. and Pahrump Valley (5-3) at 2 p.m.
