The Moapa Valley High School boys track team won the Ken Jensen Invitational, and the girls finished second at Virgin Valley High School on Friday, March. 13. The boys were 78.5 points ahead of Pahrump Valley, and the girls were 40.67 points behind the Trojans.
MVHS freshman Ashton Hickman won the 300-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 41.74 seconds. Junior Ryker Katich was third in the event but won the 110-meter hurdles. Classmate Briggs Hickman was less than a second behind him in second place. Hickman and Katich also joined juniors Brenden Van Vliet and Jeremia Dominguez to win the 4×400-meter relay. Hickman was on the first-place 4×800-meter relay team with Grant Conger, BJ Robison and Hal Thompson.
Thompson ran the 800 meters in 2:03.98 to win that event. He also had a season-best time of 4:33.81 to win the 1,600-meter race. Robison was fourth in both events.

In the throws, senior Tony Carillo was second in the shot put and third in the discus. Steele Meeks was second in the discus, and sophomore Felix Ramirez was fourth in the discus and fifth in the shot put.
Moapa Valley junior Jack Wheeler was the Pirates’ best leaper, winning the high jump and placing fourth in the triple jump with a personal best of 37 feet, 6.5 inches. He was also 10th with a personal-best long jump of 16 feet, 11.75 inches. Senior Eric Lee won the pole vault, clearing 13 feet. Classmate Dakota Bush vaulted 12 feet to finish third.
The Lady Pirates were led by the first-place finish of junior Abby Palmer in the shot put. Senior Janet Werner took second in the discus and sixth in the shot put. She was also sixth in the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 29 feet, 10.5 inches. Sophomore Gabriela Perkins had a personal-best triple jump of nearly 32 feet to finish third in the triple jump.
Sophomores Ana Freeman and Sadie Nelson were second and sixth, respectively, in the pole vault. Classmate Irelynn Lewis ran personal bests in the 1,600- and 800-meter races, finishing third and fifth, respectively. Fellow sophomore Madilyn Thompson ran the 3,200 meters in a personal-best time of 13:39.99 to take third, as freshman Evelyn Reid took fifth with another personal-best time of 13:51.69.
MVHS junior Emma Kuipers ran a personal best of 1:05.98 to take fourth in the 400 meters and was part of the second-place 4×200-meter relay team, along with Paisley Nelson and Phoebe and Addison Leavitt. Nelson was 10th in the 100 meters, with Addison Leavitt less than a tenth of a second behind in 13th.
The Moapa Valley track and field teams are at Arbor View High School on Wednesday, March 25, with events starting at 4:30 p.m
