Like the proverbial phoenix, “Hearts of Hope” is a nonprofit organization founded by three local women whose lives have been impacted by cancer. Beth Caplinger, Linda Beymer and Nova Mastrogiovanni are meeting the needs of the local community. Since they banded together, they have begun a much-needed peer support group. They said this group “is available for those who need a shoulder, a break from the daily challenges they face or are just looking for someone who understands what they are going through.”

Thirteen people attended their first meeting. This is a crucial aspect of their organization. “We support both the patients and their families in their cancer journey,” Caplinger stated. More projects are in the works as these women are still in the strategic planning stage. “And it is so great that we are already receiving substantial donations from businesses!”

The women attribute their success to the fact that they are transparent, visible in the community and attend many of the events in the community. They intend to operate year-round. “We also collaborate with the other cancer nonprofits, such as Mesquite CancerHelp.”

“What makes us unique,” Beymer said, “is the fact that we do not just focus on the patient. We also focus on the patients’ families.” Working with the family helps the healing process. This Christmas, Hearts of Hope intends to “shop for the family.” Donations will go to gifts for the members of the families of cancer patients.

Caplinger, Beymer and Mastrogiovana are passionate about helping families, striving to find ways to help them heal. They said this passion led to the “creation of a platform for advocacy, education and service to their fellow cancer families.” Their priority is “being there for someone who needs a friend or assistance as they travel their cancer journey.”

Hearts of Hope truly inspires hope, while raising awareness and providing resources to local cancer families.
