The Moapa Valley High School boys volleyball team won four straight matches on Saturday, March 28, at the Aggies Classic. The Pirates beat Sierra Vista, Clark, Mater Academy–East Las Vegas and a non-varsity opponent before falling to Durango, 2-1. They beat Durango a month prior.
The Pirates started the week with a 3-1 win over Hurricane on Tuesday, March 24. Sophomore Kai Muaina scored six of the team’s 13 aces and had seven kills on 18 attempts. Senior Tag Jensen had eight kills on 18 attempts, seven digs, two aces and two blocks.

Moapa Valley also beat Green Valley 3-0 on Wednesday, March 25, but all three sets were close. Senior Caden Rawson had 17 kills on 30 attempts, and somehow two other Pirates had kill rates over 50%. Muaina had 13 kills on 22 attempts, and Jensen had nine kills on 16 attempts. The Pirates amassed 12 total blocks, with Jaxson Bunker and Muaina each having three.
On Friday, March 27, MVHS fell to both Mojave and Arbor View, 2-0, before going on a four-match winning streak. The Rattlers rolled the Pirates 25-15, 25-15. Moapa put up a fight in set two against the Aggies, falling 25-13, 26-24.
Moapa Valley head coach Shaun Muaina said his team is entering the league season feeling confident, “but I also try to keep them grounded and eager to get better, knowing we have plenty of room to grow still. But getting wins against Virgin, as well as two big 5A teams in Green Valley and Sierra Vista, will certainly give you confidence.”
Moapa beat the Sierra Vista Mountain Lions 25-18, 25-20, as three hitters finished with kill rates of at least 50% and three Pirates had at least two blocks. Senior setter Spencer Stolworthy delivered 18 of the team’s 20 assists. Junior Kenyon May had 11 service attempts without an error.
The Pirates begin the league season in Virgin Valley (6-13, 1-0) at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31. They host Snow Canyon (6-7, 3-2) at 6 p.m. the next day.
