The Moapa Valley High School boys volleyball team improved to 3-0 in league play with 3-0 victories over both Cristo Rey St. Viator on Monday, April 6, and Doral Academy Red Rock on Tuesday, April 7.
The Pirates put on a show for the Moapa Valley fans with a 25-22, 25-16, 25-14 win over the Doral Academy Dragons. Sophomore Kai Muaina had 15 kills, 20 digs, two aces, two blocks and a 51.7% kill rate. Senior setter Spencer Stolworthy delivered 41 assists and had just one service error in 14 attempts.
On Monday, Moapa Valley rolled the Royals 25-16, 25-18, 25-14. Muaina had 14 kills and a 53.8% kill rate. Senior Caden Rawson added 13 kills on a 44.8% kill rate.
Stolworthy dished 39 assists and dealt five aces while serving 19 times and committing no errors.
“[H]e is just as steady as they come. Doesn’t make many errors from the setting position or from the service line,” MVHS head coach Shaun Muaina said of Stolworthy. “He’s been a consistent presence for this program for a long time, and we will continue to rely on him to steady the ship.”
The Pirates visit Mater Academy East Las Vegas (3-15) for a non-league match at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 13. They continue their league schedule on Wednesday, as their co-leader in the league, Coral Academy of Science (16-7, 3-0), visits Moapa Valley at 6 p.m. At the same time on Friday, April 17, the Pirates play at Pahrump Valley (3-10, 1-1).
