Visitors planning trips to Valley of Fire State Park this summer are being urged to take note of upcoming seasonal trail closures aimed at protecting public safety during extreme desert conditions.
Beginning Friday, May 15, several of the park’s most popular trails will be closed through Wednesday, September 30. The closures are part of an annual safety measure implemented during the hottest months of the year, when temperatures can reach dangerous levels.
Trails affected by the closure include Fire Wave, Seven Wonders Loop, Pastel Canyon, Prospect, Arrowhead, Pinnacles, White Domes, Charlie Springs and Natural Arches. These areas are known for their stunning scenery but also for limited shade and intense heat exposure.
Park officials emphasize that the decision comes after repeated instances of heat-related emergencies in past seasons. Search-and-rescue operations have increased during the summer months, often placing both visitors and first responders in hazardous situations.
To prevent life-threatening incidents, park staff will strictly enforce the closures. Visitors who enter restricted areas may face citations.
Officials encourage guests to plan accordingly and consider alternative activities within the park that remain open during the summer. Early morning visits, adequate hydration and awareness of weather conditions are strongly recommended for anyone spending time in the area.
For the most up-to-date information on closures and park conditions, visitors can check the Nevada State Parks website or use the OuterSpatial mobile app.
Established in 1935, Valley of Fire State Park is Nevada’s oldest state park, known for its vibrant red, sandstone formations, ancient petroglyphs and unique desert landscapes. While it remains a popular destination year-round, summer conditions require extra caution and preparation.
Residents and visitors alike are reminded: in the desert, safety must come first.
