Emergency crews responded to a boat explosion at Callville Bay on Lake Mead on Sunday, April 19, which resulted in two individuals being injured and the loss of a dog.
The incident occurred as the vessel was departing the fuel dock after being refueled. During the process of untying and starting the boat, an explosion occurred, and the vessel was quickly engulfed in flames.
Bystanders on scene utilized fire extinguishers to suppress much of the fire prior to the arrival of emergency personnel. Upon arrival, firefighters found the boat heavily involved and took over suppression efforts.
Both individuals sustained burn injuries and were transported for medical treatment. One individual remains in critical condition.
The cause of the explosion is under investigation by the Clark County Fire Department.
