A lifelong dream rooted in passion, perseverance and community has officially come to life in Overton. Local resident Sierra Houston has opened Rise Up Dance Academy, creating a space where dancers of all ages can learn, grow and find a sense of belonging.
For Houston, dance has always been part of her story. “Opening a dance studio has been a dream of mine for many years,” she shared. “I started dancing at three years old, so dance has always been a huge part of my life. As a little girl, I always dreamed of having a dance studio of my own someday, but I didn’t feel like it was within my reach until this past year.”

Students at the Rise Up Dance Academy in Overton are gearing up for the new season at dance camp.
With the encouragement of her husband, parents and in-laws, that dream became reality. Houston credits much of the studio’s success to the support system around her, including manager Whitney Stucki, who she says has been instrumental in building the academy from the ground up.
“She has dedicated many hours helping with all of our studio needs,” Houston said. “I couldn’t have done it without her.”
The academy is supported by a passionate team of instructors, including Ashley Nenno, Ivy Yale, Taylor Ransome, Katie Young, Martha Diaz and special needs instructor Shiloh Nelson, who will soon offer monthly rhythm and dance classes in the valley. Together, the team is focused on creating more than just skilled dancers.
“At Rise Up Dance Academy, we focus on more than just technique,” Houston said. “We care about building confident, kind and strong individuals. We want every dancer who walks through our doors to feel seen, valued and encouraged.”
The studio, located at 263 S. Moapa Valley Blvd., offers a wide range of classes for all ages and skill levels, including ballet, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, pom/cheer, acro and combo classes for younger dancers. Adult classes, including lyrical and heels, are also available.
Currently, the academy is offering “pre-season” classes from March to May, giving families the opportunity to explore the program before the regular season begins. Looking ahead, Rise Up Dance Academy will host themed summer camps featuring popular and engaging concepts such as Taylor Swift’s “New Era,” “Wicked,” “Princess Adventures” and “KPop Demon Hunters.” Additional camps will also be offered in Mesquite through a partnership with a local dance troupe.
Beyond recreational classes, the academy is preparing to launch a competitive dance team, with dancers training and traveling to competitions across Southern Nevada, Southern Utah and potentially, California.
“Our competition team focuses not only on strong technique and performance, but also on teamwork, dedication and personal growth,” Houston said. “It’s an incredible opportunity for local dancers who want to take their training to the next level.”
While the programs continue to grow, Houston says the most rewarding part has already been watching the impact on local youth.
“My favorite part has been seeing the dancers come in with so much excitement and willingness to learn,” she said. “Seeing the kids happy, laughing with friends and loving being in the studio is the most rewarding feeling. It’s more than just dance — we’re helping them find a place where they belong.”
As the academy continues to build momentum, Houston says community support has played a vital role. “We are so grateful for all the love and support we’ve already received,” she said. “As we grow, connecting with local families and businesses and simply spreading the word means the world to us. Our goal is to build something special for the kids, and community support truly helps it thrive.”
